HP Sprinter 11.5 and HP UFT 11.5 - Do not play nice

Hello everyone, thanks for visiting my BTO blog. Today I just wanted to give a quick pointer of what not to do. Be sure for all client side machines using UFT 11.5 that HP Sprinter 11.5 is not also installed.

As of now these tools can not co-exist on the same client side machine. If Sprinter 11.5 is installed it will prevent you from creating or opening any new test scripts with UFT 11.5.

Hopefully this can save some people the frustration of finding this out on their own.

Thanks for reading.

Connecting HP UFT 11.5 to HP ALM 11.5 with the Integration Enablement Pack

Hello everyone, its been quite a while since I have written to this blog so thank you for checking in. Today I would like to discuss connecting HP UFT 11.5 to HP ALM 11.5. This is an easy process once the ALM server has been patched and has had the Integration Enablement Pack installed.

Here are a few points to remember when installing the IEP on the ALM 11.5 Server:

  • Right click the installation file and run as an Admin during the installation.
  • During the installation wizard if you are prompted that certain processes are running be sure to kill them before proceeding by following the steps below.
    • Open Windows Task Manager
    • Click the processes tab
    • Click the view menu --> then select columns
    • Choose to display the PID (Process ID)
    • Arrange the processes in Task Manager by PID
    • End all processes that the IEP installation wizard prompted for
  • Exit the installation and re-run as admin to ensure that none of the processes the installation wizard previously prompted for are running
The main reason for the caution while installing the ALM patch and Integration Enablement Pack is that they can not be uninstalled. To remove them you have to completely uninstall HP ALM 11.5 and the re-install.
